Rules

The rules of The Finnish Orienteering Federation apply (www.ssl.fi) together with the instructions given by the event officials. If there is collision between instructions in Finnish and English, the Finnish version is valid.

Map

Printed four-coloured orienteering map 5/2011, scale 1:10 000, contour interval 5 m. All maps are printed by printer. Maps are in plastic map cases. The size of the maps are as follows: RR, TR, H/D12 ja H/D14-series A5, other series A4. Competition map can be seen at starts 1 and 2. The old map will be placed on the Information Board until 10.00. It can be seen at Routegadget.

Guidance and Distances to the Starts

Guidance to the starts begin at the guide post. The colours of the guidance can be seen at the guide post. Start 1: distance 1 500 m alongside a road. Start 2: in the vicinity of the Competition Centre.

Competition number bibs

All competitors must wear number bibs on the chest. Numbers are to be picked up at starts (self service). There are NO safety pins provided on behalf of Officials. Thus one need to bring his/her own ones. Numbers will be collected at the Finish by officials.

Checking of EMIT cards

Please, check that your EMIT card number is correct in the Start list at the results board or in the list at EMIT check point. If the number does not match, please change the number at Competition office (INFO). Using EMIT card that´s number is wrong causes Disqualification (except in series H/D14 and younger).

Hiring of EMIT card

The officials do reserve a EMIT card to each competitor who has not announced his/hers card number. One may hire a card at the Competition office (INFO), rental fee 3 euros. A hired card must be returned to the officials at the Finish or Competition office. A card that will not be returned causes a charge of 60 euros.

Checking of EMIT card

There is also a checking point for Emit-card at the guide post, close to the model Check point. Please remember to do the checking before entering the start. It is on the responsibility of a Competitor. If the card does not work, you may loan such at the Competition Office.

Start

Separate Control Descriptions are available at the start. No devices for fastening nor protection are available. There are also EMIT card slips available at the starts.

There is no checking of EMIT card numbers on behalf of Officials before start. Clearing of EMIT cards take place 4 minutes before start time by the Officials. The competitor takes his/her map at the start time. The competitor is responsible of taking a right map.

Instructions of start for H/D14 and younger are described later.

There is no transportation for competitors´ equipment on behalf of the Officials. Start line is the Start Point (K) in both starts.

Split Time Controls

There are Split time controls in series H21A and D21A at 2,8 km.

Model controls are situated at the Guide post.

Finish

There is a marked route from the final control to the finish. The final punch takes place at the finish line. After that the competitor moves to Emit card reading. In case of Disqualification proposal, the Competitor follows instructions of Officials.

Competitors may keep their maps after the race. However, according to Fair Play rules one should not show the map to such competitor who has not started yet.

Story Cabin

At the Finish there is a ”Story Cabin” for competitors in series H/D14 and younger. They have a chance to debrief their competition with experienced coaches of Rastivarsat. Those ones who do visit the Story Cabin will receive a juice.

Split times

Split times can be picked at the Competition office using EMIT card (self-service).

Prizes

Prizes in series H21A, D21A and H/D16 and younger are awarded ceremonially according to the instructions of the speaker. Competitors of other series may pick up their prizes once the results of series are official. The information will be given at the Results board. All competitors in RR series will be awarded.

Forbidden Areas

One is not allowed to go to yards, cultivated fields that are marked into the map nor to areas that are marked as forbidden areas in the map.

Washing facility

There is a washing facility close to the competition centre. Follow the guidance that starts at the Guide post.

Toilets

There are toilets available at the Competition Centre and Start 1.

First Aid

First Aid is available in the competition centre. There are no First Aid points in the competition area (woods).

Cafeteria

There are sausages, coffee and buns served at the Field Cafeteria

Day Care

A Day Care is situated in the competition centre, free of charge.

Functional Task Route

There is a Functional Task Route for small children at the Day Care. The fee is 2 euros including a map and juice. Map Scale is 1:2000. The length of the route is 350 meters. There are four functional spots. The route is marked. Escort is allowed (a parent etc.)

Control Race

There is a possibility to perform a Control Race after the Official Youth series competition from the Start 2. One may perform a guided route (RR series map) by himself/herself alone or together with for example a parent. Maps can be purchased at the Competition Office (INFO). The fee is 2 euros. One must return from the woods no later than 14.00. Those ones participating the Control Race are not allowed enter the official Finish of the race.

"Every man’s" Orienteering

There is a guidance from the Guide post. Follow the marked route to ”Kuntosuunnistus”. The distance to the start is 700 meters alongside a road. There is a possibility to start between 11.00 and 12.00 a´clock. The Finish will be closed at 14.00. The fee is 8 euros and it will be charged at the Start.

Wind Shields

Wind Shields may be erected only at the place reserved for them (”Seurateltat”)

Shops

There is Suunnistajan Kauppa at the Competition centre.

Garbage Disposal

There are collecting points in the Competition Centre. Please, do not litter

Starting Order

Start Lists are to be seen at the results board and in the internet www.rastivarsat.fi.

Lost and Found

Items will be delivered to the Competition office (Info). After the race they may be asked from the Press officer +358 44 272 1810.


SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUTH SERIES H/D8RR, H/D10RR, H/D12TR, H/D12 ja H/D14.

There are Control Descriptions printed into maps in series H/D12TR, H/D12 ja H/D14. There are separate Control Descriptions available at the Start also. RR series do not have Control Descriptions.

Five (5) minutes before start time the competitor will be invited into a Guide Station. One can have a look at competition map there. Maps are positioned horizontally and they are relative to the terrain (i.e. map north is positioned to north). Tracks can be seen in series RR and TR. There is the Start Point marked into other series´ maps. There are coaches helping children who do need aid.

Four (4) minutes before start time the competitor moves forward to the next box. The officials check start times and EMIT card numbers.

Three (3) minutes before start time the competitor moves to the next box. His/hers EMIT card will be cleared.

Two (2) minutes before start time the competitor moves to the next box. Competitors of RR series receive a map and an official will show the start point and how the route is marked. Other series do use that time for personal preparation.

One (1) minute before start time the competitor moves to the next box. Competitors of RR series may study their map. Competitors of other series pick up their map and they may study it.

Start takes place at the Start Point. Thus one is at the Start Point in the map at the start moment.

Special Instructions for RR (marked route) and TR (marked route helping) series

One should be at the start five (5) minutes before start time. Maps are placed into plastic bags. There are Officials and coaches helping at the start area.

Markings

There is a continuous white marking ribbon in the woods helping competitors in series H/D8RR, H/D10RR and H/D12TR.

Controls

All controls have Emit punching. Check the codes, please. There are controls close to each others.

RR controls are marked RR1, RR2, RR3 etc. However, all series have a common last control. It does not matter whether one uses RR5 or 100 punch.

Finish

The Finish is common for all series. There is a Story Cabin after the Finish.
